Maxim Kontsevich, Mathematician

Permanent professor since 1995, holder of the AXA-IHES Chair for Mathematics

Maxim Kontsevich belongs to a new generation of mathematicians who have been able to integrate in their area of work aspects of quantum theory, opening up radically new perspectives.

On the mathematical side, he has drawn on the systematic use of known algebraic structure deformations and on the introduction of new ones that turned out to be relevant in many other areas, with no obvious link.
