Gauge theories from D-branes
Abstract:
In these lectures we will discuss the origin of D branes and their description
in string theory. In particular we will show that the coordinates of a Dp
brane consist of a gauge field and of a number of scalar fields corresponding
to the directions transverse to the brane. This implies that the dynamics of
D branes can be used to study the properties of the gauge theory living on
their worldvolume and viceversa. This property that goes under the name of
gauge-gravity correspondence will be used to get a non trivial information on
perturbative and nonperturbative properties of the gauge theory living on the
worldvolume of a D brane.
