Triply periodic solids and surfaces have become a staple of mathematical sculpture. Bathsheba Grossman’s iconic gyroid sculpture is one of my favorite examples.
The gyroid is a surface that divides space into two parts. We could make a solid model of it by filling one part with wood and leaving the other part empty.
