Jean Bourgain, Mathematician

Permanent professor at IHES from 1985 to 1995

Jean Bourgain was awarded the Fields Medal in 1994. He mainly worked on ergodic theory and partial differential equations. After leaving IHES, he held a position at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, until his death in 2018. Jean Bourgain was elected foreign associate of the French Academy of Sciences in April 2000 and in 2016 he was awarded the Antonio Feltinelli prize by the Italian Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei.
