Visit from high school students from the Académie de Versailles

On Saturday May 24, IHES welcomed over 60 high school students from the Académie de Versailles for a morning of immersive discovery at the heart of fundamental research.

The high school students first enjoyed a guided tour of the Institute, in the presence of Emmanuel Ullmo, Director of the IHES, and Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, former Director and Nicolaas Kuiper Honorary Professor at the Institute. They were then invited to attend two scientific presentations, given by Clément Delcamp, CNRS research fellow at the IHES, and Veronica Fantini, post-doctoral researcher at the Université Paris-Saclay’s Orsay mathematics laboratory.

The majority of participants were young women, an encouraging sign for the future of scientific research.

This initiative, co-organized with academic inspectors, enabled students to explore the challenges of research in mathematics and physics, and to understand just how essential collaboration and scientific dialogue are today.
