IHES
14th ITZYKSON Seminar – “Markov Duality: Algebraic Methods and Applications”
Itzykson Seminar – FMJH
Running since 2012, the Itzykson Seminar at IHES is the main event of the Mathematics & Physics Program of the Fondation Mathématique Jacques Hadamard (FMJH). The seminar aims to bring together scientists from the Saclay area working in mathematics and theoretical physics. The event is particularly geared towards early-career researchers including master’s and PhD students, and postdocs.
This year, the seminar will take place on Tuesday, December 1, 2026, at the Marilyn and James Simons Conference Center at IHES.
Organized by Jean-René Chazottes (CPHT), Guillaume Dubach (CMLS), Ruben Minasian (IPhT) et Julio Parra-Martinez (IHES), the seminar will focus on Markov duality and its connections with Lie algebras and interacting particle systems. These topics are linked by a common guiding idea: the algebraic approach to duality, which makes it possible to construct and analyze exactly solvable Markov processes. The seminar will offer algebraic, probabilistic and physical perspectives on recent results, in particular concerning symmetries of Markov generators, pathwise interpretations in population genetics, and non-equilibrium macroscopic fluctuations.
The program includes a lecture and two talks, presented by:
- Cristian Giardinà (Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia)
-
Noemi Kurt (Goethe-Universität Frankfurt)
-
Frank Redig (TU Delft)
Participation is free, but registration by November 23, 2026, is required. The talks will be recorded and made available on the IHES YouTube channel after the event.
