Tribute to Yvonne Choquet-Bruhat and Cécile DeWitt-Morette

On April 24, 2025, a garden pavilion was inaugurated in the Bois-Marie park at IHES, in honor of Yvonne Choquet-Bruhat and Cécile DeWitt-Morette—two pioneering figures in physics and mathematics who left a lasting legacy on the Institute.

This pavilion is envisioned as a space of memory, knowledge, and dialogue—a place of science, faithfully reflecting the spirit that inspired both Yvonne Choquet-Bruhat and Cécile DeWitt-Morette.

During the inauguration ceremony, a number of renowned scientists paid tribute to them and helped transmit the values and scientific legacy of these two remarkable women:

• Emmanuel Ullmo, Director of IHES

• Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, former Director of IHES and Nicolaas Kuiper Honorary Professor

• Thibault Damour, Professor Emeritus of Physics at IHES

• Françoise Combes, President of the French Academy of Sciences

• Jérémie Szeftel, CNRS Research Director at IHES

• Bérengère Dubrulle, Director of the École de Physique des Houches and CNRS Research Director

• Julio Parra-Martinez, Permanent Professor of Physics at IHES

Through this tribute, IHES reaffirms its commitment to the history of science and to recognizing those who have helped advance it.
