Conference by Stéphanie Debette on October 21st, 5:30 pm
New event organized by Les Amis de l’IHES on Wednesday October 21st, 2026 at 5:30 pm (French Time) at IHES
Stéphanie Debette (neurobiologist, Director of the Paris Brain Institute, recipient of the 2024 INSERM Grand Prize, member of the French Academy of Sciences) will give an hybrid conference in French, entitled:
Brain Health: A Societal Challenge of the 21st Century
Brain health is a major issue of the 21st century, extending beyond the medical sphere to encompass the social, economic and strategic dimensions. More than one in three people will be affected by a brain disorder during their lifetime. These disorders are the leading cause of disability and the second leading cause of death worldwide. An ageing population is increasing the burden of age-related conditions, whilst mental health disorders are on the rise amongst young people.
The presentation will focus on cerebrovascular diseases, which are particularly common and serious. Amongst these, small vessel disease is the most widespread. It can be detected at an early stage through imaging.
We will discuss recent advances in our understanding of its biological mechanisms and in the analysis of brain images using artificial intelligence.
This lecture will be followed by a friendly drink.
